Friday's Finds : Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Last weekend, I had the thrill of sifting through a whole host of car-boot-sale tables, where objects whispered of forgotten owners, past conversations, and silent histories. Some finds are deliberate, others feel like fate. On this latest hunt, I uncovered a collection of objects that seem destined for new stories, each infused with its own peculiar magic.

This one stopped me in my tracks - a black trio, cosmic symbols brushed in shimmering gold. The signs of the zodiac curled around the cup’s body, each mark telling its own celestial tale. Perhaps it once belonged to a mystic, a tarot reader, someone who believed in the whispers of the stars. A piece like this is not simply tableware - it is a relic of fate, inviting those drawn to its mystery.

I almost overlooked this next one, resting at the edge of a seller's table. At first glance, its Art Nouveau swirls seemed familiar - but then, woven within the golden filigree, I saw them. Tiny skulls, deliberate and hidden, painted into the pattern like a secret waiting to be uncovered. This was not a cup for the faint-hearted. It belonged to someone who understood beauty in the macabre. It was made for hands like mine.

Tucked beneath a pile of mismatched china, I found the most elegant Art Deco trios, their lines sharp, their geometry bold. The rich colourful glaze still gleamed under the dim morning light, and their delicate gold trim remained intact despite the years. Holding them, I imagined past gatherings, voices humming over poured tea, laughter curling into the air. Pieces once cherished, now waiting to be claimed again.

And finally, this beautiful gem.  There’s a romance to Victorian design - ornate, theatrical, steeped in mystery. This black porcelain trio, decorated with intricate flourishes, seemed to have slipped through time itself. Had it once been laid out in flickering candlelight? Used in hushed conversations behind velvet-draped windows? The air around it felt heavy with its past, as if its former owners had left shadows behind.

And there you have it - an eclectic selection of vintage and antique china, all fit for a mad-hatter's tea-party. Each piece is available within the "Forgotten Kitchen" section of my Etsy shop. ♥
